First Lady of Tennessee Feeds the Hungry at Cul2vate!

Cul2vate was humbled to host Tennessee’s First Lady, Maria Lee, on the farm on June 17. She and her staff were joined by Commissioner Hatcher of The Tennessee Department of Agriculture for a morning of picking, packing and donating! She began the Tennessee Serves initiative in May of this year, and Cul2vate was a stop on the road to combating food insecurity.

Commissioner Hatcher and his team worked along side Maria Lee. Together, we harvested 225 pounds of red potatoes, 135 pounds of cabbage, 25 pounds of yellow squash, 25 pounds of zucchini, and 70 pounds of cucumbers. All 480 pounds of produce – 400 meals worth – were donated to The Nashville Food Project. They use Cul2vate produce to create and distribute meals to those in need.

We are honored by all the attendees and their commitment to Growing Food and Growing People right here in Middle Tennessee.

We hope she inspires you to get out in the community to serve!
