Cul2vating Urban Roots Across Tennessee
In March, Cul2vate partnered with Urban Roots of Tennessee: a community initiative that empowers Memphis youth through hands-on farming, leadership development, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The Urban Roots team visited the Cul2vate farm at the Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville and toured the fields. Cul2vate graduate and former farm foreman Chris then traveled to Memphis to impart his seed knowledge and help them start and nurture seedlings. Chris is now on staff at Urban Roots, leading plant care and agricultural education as the Farm Manager.
Through partnerships like Star Academy Charter School, Urban Roots gives the next generation valuable agricultural knowledge as students apply classroom food science skills to real-world farming.
Members of the Cul2vate staff received a warm-welcome to Memphis during the Urban Roots of Tennessee grand opening. Students, community members, and Memphis leaders all gathered to cut the ribbon for an incredible community organization.
