A Buxahatchee Update

Back in our June 2025 newsletter, we first introduced Buxahatchee, our newest Cul2vate farm. At the time, it was a bold beginning: freshly broken ground, acres of possibility, and more rocks than we could count. What stood before us wasn’t just a field; it was an invitation to build something meaningful, little by little.

By the end of that first season, signs of life had already taken root. Rows of okra, broccoli, watermelon, and more began to push through the soil, reminding us that even the hardest ground can bear fruit with care, patience, and perseverance.

Now, in 2026, that story continues to unfold. We’re expanding what’s growing at Buxahatchee by adding crops like kohlrabi, corn, and kale so that we can provide even more nutritious, diverse food to the neighbors we serve. Each new seed planted is another step forward in nourishing both bodies and communities.

As we expand our crops, we need facilities to match! Greenhouses are crucial for the farm: they incubate seeds, coaxing them to grow into strong seedlings that can sprout from the ground. They protect crops from the elements and allow flowers and produce to thrive, safe from extreme heat and cold.

Scripture reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:10–11:
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

That’s our prayer as we continue building here; that we would build with care, on a firm foundation, in farming, in ministry, and in life.

Because transformation doesn’t happen overnight.

But when we look at Buxahatchee transforming from rocky, unworked ground to rows of growing crops, and now to the beginnings of a beautiful greenhouse, we can all see something powerful—a living reminder of God’s faithfulness. A reflection of perseverance. And a glimpse of what can happen when a community comes together with purpose.

And we’re just getting started.
