Cul2vator (Phase 1) Graduation: Celebrating Growth, Grit & New Beginnings

Graduation is always a special time at Cul2vate. It allows us to celebrate our Cul2vators’ growth, recognize the hard work they’ve put in, and cheer them on as they step into what’s next.

This October, 11 Cul2vators completed Phase 1: Dustin, Lakota, Jermaine, Zachary, John, James, Pennie, Hannah, Stephen, Bobby, and Michael.

These men and women endured the summer heat, tough days, and challenging tasks, but they persevered. Their journeys have not been easy, and witnessing their transformation over the past few months has been remarkable.

Honoring Outstanding Achievements

Stephen — Chris Comstock Award

The Chris Comstock Award, named for our first Cul2vator and current Farm Site Manager, honors someone who has shown tremendous personal growth.

When Stephen joined Cul2vate, he was quiet and reserved, speaking only when necessary but showing incredible dedication through his work. Over time, he has opened up, grown in confidence, and become a valued voice in our community.

In his acceptance speech, Stephen shared his journey – from battling alcoholism, to facing an ultimatum from his sister, to a season of homelessness. Through God’s providence, he found Welcome Home Ministries, where he met Jimmy Hobbs, Cul2vate’s Farm Director. That relationship led him to apply for Cul2vate, where he has found purpose, community, and the courage to let his voice be heard.

We are so proud of you, Stephen. Congratulations! You can directly hear from him in this video:

Zachary “Ziggy” — Spirit Award

Known for his signature phrase—“LET’S GO!”—Ziggy brings joy and motivation wherever he goes. His leadership, energy, and constant encouragement uplift everyone around him.

Whether the workday is easy or challenging, you can count on Ziggy to inspire his fellow Cul2vators.

Congratulations, Ziggy, and thank you for embodying the Cul2vate spirit!

What’s Next for Our Cul2vators

Several Cul2vators have already launched into new opportunities, including Dustin, Jermaine, and Hannah

Each has stepped into new jobs or educational pathways, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for them.

The remaining graduates – Lakota, Zachary, John, James, Pennie, Stephen, Bobby, and Michael – are now in Phase 2, where they will deepen their farming skills, continue spiritual development, and further prepare for long-term stability and success.

We’re So Proud of Our Graduates

Every graduate has shown determination, perseverance, and a willingness to lean into the hard work of transformation. We celebrate all 11 of our Phase 1 graduates and look forward to walking alongside them in the months ahead.
