Meet Travis! In this interview, he shares how he came to Cul2vate, his connection to a certain farm, and his dreams for the future. Scroll down for the video!

Please introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Travis.

How did you come to Cul2vate?

I came to Cul2vate because I am in the Men of Valor program, and they told me I was coming here for a job. I had no clue what Cul2vate was, except for a farm, and they told me and got in-depth with what Cul2vate is and their ministry they have here. I just thought it was a great ministry, and I feel like I belong here with the other people that work here.

What is your favorite farm to work and why?

I’d probably say at Brentwood working with Deberry because he is also a graduate of the Men of Valor program, so I see him all the time. You know, we work well together, and it’s just a good fit for me.

What has been exciting about learning how to tend crops? What has been discouraging?

Exciting part is just watching how would you plant the seeds, and then a week later you see the little sprout come up, and then you know down the line the fruits and vegetables start developing and growing, and you know it’s pretty amazing what God can do.

Discouraging is harvesting it. It’s just time-consuming, but you know it’s all part of the job. But the least favorite of mine is, you know, digging potatoes and all that.

What are you beginning to learn about yourself as a result of this program?

Patience. I used to be a person of instant gratification. You know, I need everything done now. But being here, just watching everything grow. You know, everything takes time to develop.

Think ahead 2-3 years. If everything goes exactly as you hope it will, how will your life be different than it is today? How has being a part of Cul2vate helped you to create that different life?

Cul2vate has helped me with just learning more about myself on being more patient and compassionate with other people because there’s other people that have the same background as me. Two to three years down the line, hopefully,  I’ll be working for Men of Valor because just giving back is what I want to do from everything that they’ve helped me with.
