Please introduce yourself
My name is Karl Sorensen.
How did you come to Cul2vate?
I came to Cul2vate through, I found out about the job through Deberry, and a past graduate named Ziggy. And I really enjoy plant science. I went to college to study plant sciences.
What is your favorite farm to work and why?
I like to work at Brentwood Baptist Church Farm. I enjoy spending time with Deberry as a manager, and I enjoy the very large size of the farm and the hard labor involved.
What has been exciting about learning how to tend crops? What has been discouraging?
What has been exciting about growing crops is you never know what you’re going to find day to day, and watching the things grow and things progress throughout the growing season, and a thing I found discouraging is like lack of water or lack of rain, watching the plants wilt or not do as well.
What are you beginning to learn about yourself as a result of this program?
What I’ve been learning to realize about myself as a result of the program is that I am a caring person, becoming more spiritual, and that I enjoy giving back to the community.
Think ahead 2-3 years. If everything goes exactly as you hope it will, how will your life be different than it is today? How has being a part of Cul2vate helped you to create that different life?
In two to three years, if everything goes as I expect, I’ll be reintegrated back into the community by giving back, meeting new people from the public, and learning how to help others in need.
I encourage everybody to come to Cul2vate to the farm store or to the farms to volunteer and get to meet the Cul2vators as we really gain a lot of experience and knowledge from being with the volunteers and the general public.
