Farewell to the Phase 2 Graduates

On March 6, staff, volunteers, partner ministries, and friends of Cul2vate gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the Phase 2 Cul2vators and send them off with love and encouragement as they take their next steps. Lakota, Ziggy, Stephen, Bobby, Pennie, and James (pictured left to right) have each embodied Cul2vate’s four Core Values while showing tremendous personal growth. As they embraced a new community, they demonstrated deep respect for one another and for the entire Cul2vate family. Little by little, they persevered through trials while holding onto hope for tomorrow. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, and while their journeys may now lead them beyond our farms, they will always remain part of the Cul2vate family.

During the celebration, staff members shared heartfelt words with each graduate, honoring the growth they have witnessed over the last year. Lakota and Stephen built confidence and found their voices. Bobby grew in hard work and self-assurance. James became more open to friendship and community. Ziggy, Pennie, and Michael each persevered through personal trials that would have caused many people to give up.

Our staff also reflected on how close-knit this class of Cul2vators became. They shared one another’s joys and sorrows and embraced the vulnerability that is so essential to nurturing meaningful relationships.

Although our Executive Director, Joey, was unable to attend the celebration in person, he sent a special message for the graduates. You can listen to his words for them here.

Each of our Cul2vators is now stepping into an exciting new opportunity. Lakota is continuing her college education; Ziggy will be using his skills in construction at Elmington; James is working for the United States Postal Service. Pennie is using her agricultural knowledge at American Landscaping, after completing her time at Uprise; Stephen is applying his expertise at Room in the Inn; and Bobby and Michael are both working in manufacturing at Talos Engineered Products and Midsouth Wire, respectively. Michael had already started his position and was unfortunately unable to attend graduation, but his friends made sure he received his certificate and gift.

It is always bittersweet to see another class of Cul2vators move on, but we are cheering them on every step of the way. We wish them all the very best, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for their futures. Please join us in praying for God to continue to move through their lives as they journey forward!
